Therefore the Northeast Indiana Burn Council plans to create a set of sleep rooms for overnight stays as well as a lounge area for family members to rest and regroup.

We plan at least two separate sleep rooms with two double beds and bath facilities in each room. These two rooms will then both connect to a shared lounge area with a meeting table, couches, a library with books and games for siblings, and a computer. The computer will allow access to medical websites should family members have questions about the next steps in treatment, as well as allow access to websites to keep other friends and family abreast of the burn survivor’s recovery. Total cost $120,000.
At this time, only one parent may stay in the room overnight with their child at the Regional Burn Center at St. Joseph Hospital. Other family members, including a second parent, siblings, grandparents, etc., as well as relatives of adult patients must find other overnight accommodations. This is a real problem for those traveling from outside of the metro Fort Wayne area for treatment.

The Solution:

The District 25B Leos are kicking off a major fundraising project. The funds collected will be used for the construction of a family room at the St. Joe Hospital Burn Unit.

St. Joe is one of only 19 certified Burn units in the country. If you are severely burned any where in Northern Indiana this is where you are going to be treated. In fact, the further away you live the more likely you would need the family room.
